Sharad Pawar Slams Alliance Rumors with Ajit, Calls It Opportunism

NCP chief Sharad Pawar dismissed speculation of a potential alliance with Ajit Pawar for the upcoming Maharashtra civic elections. Sharad Pawar criticized such moves as "opportunism," clearly signaling a full stop to uncle-nephew collaboration talks amidst political uncertainties in the state.

Let us tell you that two days ago, while talking to the media, Sharad Pawar had said that his party is open to alliance in the upcoming elections. After this statement, the discussion started whether both factions of NCP will contest the elections together. However, now he has said with complete clarity that his party will not sit with those who are in government with BJP and yet call themselves followers of the ideology of Phule, Shahu and Ambedkar.

Addressing a party meeting in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Sharad Pawar said, “We are ready for alliance with like-minded parties in the upcoming local body elections. But we have to understand what does like-mindedness mean? If someone believes in the ideology of Gandhi, Nehru, Phule, Shahu and Ambedkar, then we can sit with them. Those who are joining hands with the BJP only for power, that is opportunism and such opportunism should not be promoted.

Internal tussle in NCP

Sharad Pawar also admitted that some MLAs of his party are in favor of going with Ajit Pawar, while on the other hand some MLAs are opposing it. On this, he said, “Now the task of taking decisions in the party has been entrusted to Supriya (Sunil). I am no longer in an active role in the decisions of the party. But when the talk of alliance with Ajit Pawar started, I myself came forward and clarified the situation.
