Tejashwi Yadav Named Mahagathbandhan's CM Face as Congress Steps Back in Bihar

In a significant move to consolidate its position for the upcoming Bihar elections, the opposition 'Mahagathbandhan' (Grand Alliance) has officially announced Tejashwi Yadav as its Chief Ministerial candidate. The alliance also confirmed that Mukesh Sahni, president of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), will be one of the two Deputy Chief Ministers.
The announcement was made by senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot at a joint press conference in Patna, signaling that the Congress party has taken a backseat on the top post. Gehlot used the platform to launch a sharp attack on the BJP-led NDA, accusing it of using "money power" to win elections and claiming the Election Commission has become a "puppet of the government."
This ends the prolonged speculation over the alliance's leadership after the Congress had previously sidestepped the question, with leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Digvijay Singh suggesting the CM would be from the party with the most seats.
Addressing the media, Tejashwi Yadav confidently challenged the NDA to name its chief ministerial face. He asserted that the BJP would not project current Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the top job, calling this the "last election" for Kumar.
Highlighting his governance agenda, Tejashwi promised a crackdown on corruption and lawlessness, stating, "Even if my shadow errs, action will be taken." He boldly claimed that his alliance would fulfil all its promises if given "20 months, not 5 years," contrasting his 17-month tenure as Deputy CM with the NDA's "20 years of rule marked by poverty and migration."
The event, which showcased a united front despite earlier seat-sharing tensions, sets the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle in Bihar.
