Meanwhile, in another setback for political heirs, the RJD has announced Prof. Chandrashekhar as its candidate from Madhepura, sidelining Shantanu Yadav, son of veteran leader Sharad Yadav. Reacting to the development, Shantanu shared a picture of his father on social media, calling the decision “a political conspiracy” and lamenting that “socialism has lost.”
Irfan Alam’s Political Journey and Ticket Denial
Irfan Alam, considered one of Pappu Yadav’s most trusted associates, played a crucial role in consolidating Muslim votes during the Lok Sabha elections, significantly strengthening Yadav’s influence in the Kasba Assembly region. His grassroots work had made him a strong contender for the Congress ticket this election.
Formerly with the JDU, Irfan switched sides ahead of the general elections to join Congress alongside Pappu Yadav. However, when the party declared its list of candidates, his name was missing, sparking outrage among his supporters.
According to those close to him, Irfan had been assured the Congress symbol from the Kasba seat and had frequently traveled between Patna and Delhi with his team in anticipation of the ticket. The party’s decision to field Afaq Alam for the fourth consecutive term left Irfan disappointed and his supporters visibly angry.
Shantanu Yadav’s Post Hints at Rift Within RJD
Late Thursday night, the RJD named Prof. Chandrashekhar as its candidate from Madhepura, ending days of speculation that Shantanu Yadav, son of the late Sharad Yadav, would be given the seat.
Expressing his dismay on Friday, Shantanu took to social media to post an old photograph with his father and Tejashwi Yadav, captioning it, “A political conspiracy has been hatched against me. Socialism has been defeated.”
His post quickly went viral, drawing strong reactions from supporters, many of whom alleged that the party had betrayed Sharad Yadav’s legacy and sidelined his son.
