Unable to Take Heat from KN Nehru’: DMK’s Saravanan Links DVAC Raids to Assembly Voice

DMK leader Saravanan has alleged that the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) searches targeting properties linked to former Tamil Nadu minister K N Nehru were triggered by his interventions in the Assembly.

Saravanan claimed that his voice in the Assembly had put pressure on Nehru and alleged that the former minister was “not able to take the heat” from his criticism. The allegation comes on a day when DVAC conducted searches at 19 locations linked to Nehru and his brother Ravichandran across Tamil Nadu.

The searches are connected to allegations concerning the Municipal Administration and Water Supply (MAWS) Department during Nehru's tenure as minister. DVAC's action follows a long-running corruption investigation that has already reached the Madras High Court.

In February, the Madras High Court directed the anti-corruption agency to register an FIR based on material supplied by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with alleged irregularities in the department. The ED had alleged corruption involving recruitment and other activities within MAWS.

DVAC subsequently registered an FIR in June against Nehru and several others in the alleged cash-for-jobs case. The case followed allegations that bribes were collected in connection with appointments in the department.

The legal proceedings remain contested. Nehru has challenged the proceedings before the Madras High Court, while his counsel has disputed the allegations and questioned the circumstances in which the FIR was ordered.

In August, the High Court reserved orders on Nehru's review petition against the February direction to register the FIR. The court had also continued interim protection against coercive action while considering the matter.

The latest DVAC searches therefore come amid an already active legal and political dispute over allegations against the former minister. Saravanan's claim that the searches were a response to his Assembly interventions is a political allegation and has not been independently established.

The searches themselves do not establish criminal wrongdoing; any allegations against Nehru and others remain subject to investigation and due legal process.
