Union Minister and BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar’s convoy came under attack on Wednesday near the Nabadwip bus stand, leaving two party workers injured and several vehicles damaged, party sources reported. The BJP has blamed local Trinamool Congress (TMC) cadres for orchestrating the assault, which reportedly involved stone-pelting and the use of sticks.
Majumdar had attended the Raas festival at Sarkarpara earlier in the day. As his convoy returned, eyewitnesses said miscreants hurled bricks and wielded wooden rods at the vehicles. Video footage circulated by party workers shows men carrying sticks and moving aggressively around the convoy. Several cars were visibly damaged in the attack.
“You can see they split two workers’ heads open,” Majumdar said, urging the administration to take stringent action. He warned that if the accused were not arrested promptly, the party would ensure justice independently. BJP leader Sajal Ghosh echoed the call for stronger intervention, stating, “This happens every day. If leaders are targeted, what happens to ordinary workers? The central government must step in decisively.”
Local police have registered complaints and launched an investigation. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and collecting witness statements to verify the sequence of events. The accused have denied the allegations, and the investigation is ongoing.
The incident has escalated political tensions in the area ahead of upcoming elections, highlighting concerns over law and order during electoral periods. BJP leaders have warned of further protests if prompt action is not taken against those responsible.
As the probe continues, both political parties are maintaining heightened vigilance in Nabadwip, with officials urging calm and adherence to law and order. The episode has drawn attention to the growing friction between BJP and TMC cadres in the region.
