Observers note that no community has emerged as a winner from the violence. Instead, the conflict has deepened mistrust, damaged livelihoods and forced many young people to leave the state in search of education and employment elsewhere.

Experts point to the 1986 Mizoram Peace Accord as an example of how armed conflict can be resolved through democratic dialogue. Mizoram's transition from insurgency to peace is widely regarded as one of the Northeast's most successful peace processes, demonstrating that lasting progress is achieved through negotiations rather than violence.

Constitutional mechanisms, including provisions for regional governance and protection of community interests, are seen as viable platforms for addressing concerns related to land, identity and political representation. Social leaders have stressed that these issues should be resolved through inclusive discussions rather than armed confrontation.

Women's groups and civil society organisations have also been recognised for their longstanding role in promoting peace and protecting communities during times of conflict. Many believe that their participation will be crucial in any future reconciliation process.

Peace advocates say that a stable and secure Manipur would allow displaced families to return home, revive tourism, improve trade and strengthen the state's role as India's gateway to Southeast Asia under the Act East Policy. Better connectivity, investment and employment opportunities could significantly improve the state's economic prospects.

There are also calls on both the Central and State Governments to ensure that any peace process is transparent, inclusive and time-bound. Rehabilitation, skill development and dignified reintegration are being highlighted as essential steps for those willing to abandon violence and return to mainstream society.

The message from peace supporters is clear: lasting peace cannot be achieved through the barrel of a gun. Dialogue, mutual trust and constitutional solutions remain the only sustainable path towards a secure and prosperous future for every community in Manipur.
