Digital Desk
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the India Women’s squad for the upcoming five-match T20 series against Sri Lanka, scheduled from December 21 to 30. The series holds major significance as it will be India’s first international appearance after lifting the ODI World Cup earlier this year.
Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to lead the side, while star opener Smriti Mandhana has been named vice-captain. This will be Mandhana’s first international assignment following her widely talked-about personal setback and wedding cancellation with singer Palash Muchhal. Despite the challenges off the field, the left-handed batter is set to return with renewed focus and responsibility.
Two New Faces Earn Maiden Call-Up
The squad includes fresh talent, with spinner Vaishnavi Sharma and wicketkeeper G Kamalini receiving their maiden call-ups to the national team. Their inclusion highlights India’s preparation strategy ahead of next year’s ICC T20 World Cup.
The five T20Is will be played across two venues:
First two matches: Visakhapatnam
Final three matches: Thiruvananthapuram

First Series After Becoming World Champions
India will be entering this series as the newly crowned ODI World Champions. The team created history on November 2 by defeating South Africa in the final and claiming their first-ever ICC Women’s ODI World Cup trophy. The campaign also included a memorable chase against Australia in the semi-final—recorded as the highest run chase in Women’s ODI history.
Perfect Dress Rehearsal for the 2025 T20 World Cup
This T20 series serves as a valuable opportunity for India to fine-tune their combination ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2025, scheduled in England from June 12 to July 5. India has been placed in Group A alongside Australia, South Africa, and Pakistan.
While India has already etched their name in ODI World Cup history, the T20 title still remains elusive. The team reached the final once, in 2020, but fell short against Australia. The upcoming series will be crucial
