The Tamil Nadu cricket team has announced spinner Varun Chakravarthy as its new captain for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, marking his first leadership role at any competitive level. Wicketkeeper-batter N Jagadeesan has been appointed as the team’s vice-captain for the T20 domestic tournament beginning November 26.

Varun Chakravarthy has earned the captaincy following an impressive performance in the recent T20I series in Australia, where he picked up 5 wickets in three matches. The Tamil Nadu team management chose him over seasoned domestic players such as R Sai Kishore and M Shahrukh Khan, who led the side previously.
