BCCI files complaint against Haris Rauf, Sahibzada Farhan: PCB counters with action demand on Suryakumar Yadav amid Asia Cup 2025 tensions

In a escalating cricket rivalry, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has lodged a formal complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) against Pakistani players Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan for provocative gestures during the Asia Cup 2025 Super-4 match on September 21 in Dubai. This move comes amid heightened IND vs PAK tensions, potentially leading to a fiery final showdown.

The controversy stems from Rauf's response to Indian fans chanting Virat Kohli's name. The Pakistani pacer gestured shooting down aircraft, referencing unverified claims from Operation Sindoor where Pakistan alleged downing five Indian jets a narrative widely dismissed as baseless. Similarly, Farhan celebrated his fifty by mimicking machine-gun fire with his bat, drawing widespread criticism for its inflammatory nature. Post-match, Farhan defended his action, stating, "I don’t care how people take it. It was just a moment."

Not to be outdone, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) retaliated by filing a counter-complaint against Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav. This pertains to Yadav's post-match remarks after India's victory on September 14, dedicating the win to Pahalgam terror attack victims and armed forces in Operation Sindoor. PCB labeled it as political, though questions arise over whether the complaint adheres to the ICC's seven-day filing limit.

Separate ICC hearings are scheduled: Match referee Andy Pycroft will handle BCCI's case, while Richie Richardson oversees PCB's against Yadav. If Rauf and Farhan deny allegations, they may face Elite Panel scrutiny, risking penalties under the ICC Code of Conduct.

Adding fuel, Pakistan's Home Minister and ACC President Mohsin Naqvi posted a controversial video mimicking Ronaldo's plane-crash gesture, echoing Rauf's antics. BCCI and ICC are reviewing this, raising doubts about India sharing the stage with Naqvi in the final.

As India secures a spot in the Asia Cup 2025 final—aiming for a historic ninth title—Pakistan faces Bangladesh in a virtual semi-final. This off-field drama underscores the intense IND-PAK cricket rivalry, captivating fans worldwide. Stay tuned for live updates on Asia Cup controversies.
