A five-member Brazilian Football Confederation delegation inspected Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium ahead of the historic India-Brazil international friendly scheduled for October 3. Officials reviewed the pitch, training facilities, changing rooms, hygiene and other match-day arrangements.
Brazil Team Checks Venue
A five-member delegation from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) conducted a detailed inspection of Kolkata’s Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, popularly known as Salt Lake Stadium, ahead of the October 3 India-Brazil friendly.
The delegation spent more than two hours assessing the stadium and facilities as preparations intensify for what will be the first senior international meeting between India and Brazil.
Five-Member CBF Delegation
The delegation was led by Sergio Dimas de Oliveira, General Supervisor of Brazil’s Men’s National Teams.
The other members were administrator Vinicius Barrozo Costa, Marketing and Operations Manager José Vitor Senatore de Paula Lima, physiologist Guilherme Passos Ramos and security official Bruno Mazzei Reis.
They were accompanied during the inspection by All India Football Federation Director of Football and former India goalkeeper Subrata Paul.
Pitch Gets Close Attention
The Brazilian officials inspected the playing surface in detail and checked different sections of the pitch.
They also sought information about the condition and maintenance of the grass, with the playing surface expected to remain a key priority before Brazil's arrival.
The delegation also reviewed the training facilities within the stadium complex as part of its assessment of the venue's readiness.
Hygiene Facilities Reviewed
Changing rooms, toilets and other facilities were also inspected during the visit.
Hygiene reportedly remained an important concern for the Brazilian officials. However, West Bengal Sports Minister Indranil Khan said the delegation was satisfied after seeing the arrangements at the venue.
Officials are expected to continue work on the requirements identified during the inspection before the match.
India Brazil Clash Confirmed
Brazil will face India at Salt Lake Stadium on October 3, 2026.
The Brazilian Football Confederation has officially confirmed that the match will be the first senior international encounter between the two countries. Brazil will arrive in Kolkata after playing Australia in Townsville on September 25 and Brisbane on September 29.
The fixture will be one of the biggest matches in the history of Indian football, with Brazil being five-time FIFA World Cup champions.
Security Preparations Underway
Security and logistics are also receiving attention ahead of the high-profile fixture.
The CBF delegation reviewed the stadium's arrangements as part of its wider assessment. Authorities have been working on preparations while the Salt Lake Stadium is currently being used for the Durand Cup.
The inspection also comes after security and crowd-management concerns were raised following an incident at the stadium in December 2025. West Bengal officials have said ongoing arrangements for the Durand Cup demonstrate that the venue can handle major events.
Historic Night For Kolkata
The India-Brazil match carries special significance for Kolkata, a city with a long-standing connection to Brazilian football.
Brazilian legend Pelé visited Kolkata in 1977 when his New York Cosmos played Mohun Bagan at Eden Gardens. Brazil's youth teams have also played in the city, including during the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
The October 3 fixture will now bring Brazil's senior men's team to Kolkata for the first time in a competitive international setting against India.
For Indian football, the match represents an opportunity to face one of the world's most successful football nations on home soil. With preparations now under close scrutiny from the CBF, attention will turn to completing the remaining venue and logistical requirements before Brazil's arrival.
