India dominated the contest from the opening quarter and scored through Sunelita Toppo, Navneet Kaur, Sushila Chanu, Deepika Sehrawat, Lalremsiami and Sakshi Rana. South Africa managed only one goal, scored by Kayla de Waal in the fourth quarter.

India Make Fast Start

India established control early and opened the scoring in the 11th minute. A well-worked move down the left created the opening, with Sunelita Toppo finishing from close range.

Sushila Makes It Three

India extended their advantage to 3-0 in the 25th minute. Deepika Sehrawat's drag-flick created the opportunity, with Sushila Chanu guiding the deflected ball past the goalkeeper.

Second-Half Goal Rush

Deepika Sehrawat added India's fourth goal in the 38th minute with a powerful tomahawk. Lalremsiami then scored in the 44th minute before Sakshi Rana struck a minute later.

South Africa Get Consolation

South Africa finally found the net in the 55th minute when Kayla de Waal converted after a deflection from a penalty-corner effort fell into her path.

The goal provided some consolation, but India maintained control through the closing stages and completed a convincing 6-1 victory.

The result lifted India to the top of Pool D and strengthened their chances of reaching the second round. India had opened their campaign with a 2-2 draw against China, meaning they now have four points from two matches.

China's 4-2 victory over England on Tuesday further improved India's position. India need only a draw against England in their final pool match to secure progression to the next round.
