India delivered one of its strongest performances at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Friday, winning six medals across judo and athletics, including two gold, two silver and two bronze, to take its overall tally to 23 medals.

The highlight of the day came in judo, where Asmita Dey scripted history by becoming the first Indian judoka to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal. Just 15 minutes later, Harsh Singh added another gold, while Yamini Maurya secured a silver to complete an impressive outing for India in the sport.

Historic Day for Indian Judo

Twenty-three-year-old Asmita Dey from Tripura overcame Canada's Heidi Quach in the women's final after staging a remarkable comeback. Trailing early and carrying a penalty, Asmita fought back to level the contest before clinching the decisive point in the Golden Score period, earning India's maiden Commonwealth Games gold in judo.

Shortly afterwards, Harsh Singh captured the men's 60kg title by defeating Australia's Joshua Katz. The closely fought contest remained scoreless for most of the bout before Harsh executed a decisive technique in the closing stages to seal the victory.

In the women's 57kg final, Yamini Maurya settled for silver after losing to England's Acelya Toprak in Golden Score. The contest remained evenly balanced until Yamini received a third shido penalty, handing victory to her opponent.

Neeraj, Yash Deliver Historic Double Podium

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra claimed the silver medal in the men's javelin throw with a season-best effort of 85.83 metres.

India also celebrated a historic double podium as Yashveer Singh produced a personal-best throw of 85.41 metres to secure the bronze medal. Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage won gold with a throw of 89.75 metres.

The competition also witnessed a major surprise as Pakistan's Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem failed to finish among the top eight and exited after the opening three rounds.

Tejaswin Creates History in Decathlon

India's Tejaswin Shankar became the country's first Commonwealth Games medallist in the decathlon after finishing third with 7,976 points.

Grenada's Lindon Victor claimed the gold medal with 8,096 points, while Canada's Damian Warner secured silver with 8,036 points.

Tejaswin's achievement adds another milestone to his growing athletics career after previously winning a high jump bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Boxing Campaign Gathers Momentum

India also confirmed an impressive presence in the boxing finals, with all 10 Indian boxers advancing to gold medal bouts.

Among the women finalists are Preeti Pawar (54kg), Sakshi Choudhary (51kg), Jaismine Lamboria (57kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg) and Lovlina Borgohain (75kg).

In the men's category, Ankush Panghal (80kg), Jadumani Singh (55kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg) and Narender Berwal (+90kg) have also booked their places in the finals.

India Climbs Medal Tally

With Friday's six-medal haul, India has now collected 23 medals at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, comprising five gold, twelve silver and six bronze medals, and currently occupies the 10th position in the overall medal standings.

India will look to further improve its tally on Saturday as athletes compete across boxing, athletics, para athletics, judo, track cycling and lawn bowls, with several gold-medal events scheduled.
