A Historic Milestone for Indian Karate,Indian Karate has achieved a historic international milestone with Hanshi Premjit Sen becoming the first Indian to be invited to serve as a Member of the Referee Commission of the Commonwealth Karate Federation (CKF).
The official invitation was extended on behalf of the CKF Executive Board and President Sensei Billy Brennan, recognising Hanshi Sen’s extensive experience, long-standing contribution and commitment to the development of Karate officiating at the international level.
This landmark recognition places an Indian Karate official in a key technical role within the Commonwealth Karate movement and represents a proud moment for Indian Karate and its officiating fraternity.
A practitioner and student of Karate for several decades, Hanshi Premjit Sen has dedicated his life to the discipline—not only as a practitioner and teacher, but also as an international referee, judge, administrator and promoter of the sport. His journey reflects years of continuous study, technical development, competition experience and service to the Karate community.
He is a WKF & AKF Referee and Judge and currently serves as Chairman of the Referee Commission of the Karate India Organisation (KIO). His contribution to Indian Karate has also been recognised through the prestigious Bronze Pin Award, marking an important milestone in his long journey within the sport.
Over the years, Hanshi Sen has worked extensively to strengthen the standards of refereeing and competition in India, while encouraging young athletes, coaches and officials to pursue excellence through discipline, knowledge and fair play. His approach to officiating has consistently emphasised integrity, impartiality, technical accuracy and respect for the true spirit of Karate.
Speaking about the historic recognition, Hanshi Premjit Sen said:
“I am deeply honoured and grateful to the Commonwealth Karate Federation for this opportunity and for the confidence placed in me. To become the first Indian invited to serve on the CKF Referee Commission is a matter of immense pride and responsibility.
