Jasmine Lamboria makes history with Gold Medal at World Boxing Championships 2025:India bags Three Medals

India's Jasmine Lamboria creates history with gold at World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool. Nupur, Pooja Rani add silver, bronze medals.

India's Jasmine Lamboria scripted history by winning the country's first gold medal at the World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool, Britain. Competing in the women's 57kg category final, Lamboria defeated Poland's Olympic silver medallist Julia Szeremeta with a commanding 4-1 split decision on Saturday night.

The 24-year-old Commonwealth Games bronze medallist showcased remarkable resilience after losing the first round, dominating the match from the second round onwards using her height advantage and superior reach. Szeremeta, who won silver at the Paris 2024 Olympics, started aggressively but could not match Lamboria's tactical brilliance in the later rounds.

"This feeling can't be expressed. I'm so happy to be a world champion. After my early exit at Paris 2024, I went away and improved my technique physically and mentally. This is the result of consistent work for a year," Lamboria told Olympics.com after her historic victory.

India's Medal Haul

India's success extended beyond Lamboria's gold. Nupur Sheoran claimed silver in the women's 80+kg category after losing a closely contested final 3-2 to Poland's Agata Kaczmarska. Meanwhile, veteran boxer Pooja Rani secured bronze in the 80kg division following her semifinal defeat to England's Emily Asquith.

With this achievement, Lamboria became the ninth Indian boxer to win a World Championship gold, joining an elite list that includes Mary Kom, Nikhat Zareen, and Lovlina Borgohain.

Men's Team Struggles

In stark contrast to the women's stellar performance, India's men's boxing team returned empty-handed for the first time since 2013. Promising debutant Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (50kg) reached the quarterfinals but lost 4-0 to Kazakhstan's former world champion Sanzhar Tashkenbay. Abhinash Jamwal (65kg) also made the quarterfinals before bowing out.

The men's team had previously won three bronze medals at the 2023 World Championships in Tashkent through Deepak Bhoria, Mohammad Hussamuddin, and Nishant Dev.
