India’s Kajal Dhochak has retained her U20 World Wrestling Championship title, defeating China’s Jingru Sun 7-0 in the women’s 76kg final in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Kajal Defends World Title
India’s Kajal Dhochak produced another dominant performance on the international stage to win her second consecutive U20 World Wrestling Championship gold medal.
The 18-year-old Indian defeated China’s Jingru Sun 7-0 in the women’s 76kg final at the 2026 U20 World Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia.
The victory follows her U20 world title in the 72kg category last year, making her only the second Indian wrestler to win two U20 World Championship gold medals.
Dominant 7-0 Final Win
Kajal controlled the final from the opening exchanges and did not allow her Chinese opponent to score.
She took an early 1-0 lead through a step-out before converting a double-leg attack into a takedown to move 3-0 ahead at the break.
Sun was later penalised for an open-hands infringement, giving Kajal another point. The Indian then pushed her opponent out of the wrestling area and added another takedown to complete a convincing 7-0 victory.
Perfect Campaign In Slovakia
Kajal's performance in Bratislava was particularly impressive because she did not concede a single point throughout her campaign, according to reports.
She opened with a victory by fall against Japan’s Miyu Takayama before defeating Türkiye’s Elmira Yasin 14-0.
In the semifinal, Kajal defeated American wrestler Piper Fowler 6-0 to book her place in the final against Sun.
Second World Title In Two Years
Kajal won her first U20 World Championship title in 2025 in the women's 72kg category, where she defeated China's Yuqi Liu 8-6 in the final.
She moved up to the 76kg category this year and has continued to deliver strong results.
Her latest world title adds to a growing international record that also includes the 2024 U17 World Championship title and gold medals at several events in 2026.
Fifth Gold Of 2026
The U20 World Championship victory is reportedly Kajal's fifth consecutive gold medal of 2026.
Her recent successes include titles at the U23 Asian Championships, Ulaanbaatar Ranking Series, U20 Asian Championships and Budapest Ranking Series before her latest triumph in Bratislava.
She had also won the women's 76kg title at the Ulaanbaatar Open earlier this year, defeating Nigeria's Damola Ojo 8-0 in the final.
India Adds Two Silver Medals
Kajal's gold was accompanied by two silver medals for India in the women's events.
Tanu Sharma finished runner-up in the 72kg category after losing 3-5 to Japan's Chisato Yoshida in the final.
Savita also claimed silver in the 62kg category after Japan's Sakura Onishi defeated her 12-2 by technical superiority.
India remained in contention for more medals as the championships entered their final stages.
A Rising Wrestling Star
Kajal's back-to-back U20 world titles underline her rapid progress in Indian women's wrestling.
Her move from 72kg to 76kg has not slowed her momentum, and her unbeaten run through the Bratislava competition further strengthens her credentials as one of India's promising young wrestlers.
The U20 World Championship gold also provides another major milestone in a year in which she has repeatedly finished on top of the podium.
With the U20 World Championships continuing through August 23, Indian wrestlers remain in contention across the remaining women's and men's freestyle categories
