Mithun Manhas set to become BCCI President: First uncapped cricketer to lead BCCI Board

In a historic development, former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas is poised to become the next president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following a high-profile meeting in Delhi on September 20, 2025.

The 45-year-old, who never played international cricket, emerged as the frontrunner, surpassing prominent contenders like Sourav Ganguly and Harbhajan Singh. The decision, finalized at a Union Minister’s residence, awaits official confirmation at the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 28, 2025, in Mumbai.

Manhas, a stalwart of Indian domestic cricket, will make history as the first uncapped cricketer to lead the BCCI. With an 18-year first-class career, he played 157 matches, scoring 9,714 runs at an average of nearly 46, including 27 centuries. His IPL stints with Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors, and Chennai Super Kings further bolstered his profile. Manhas also brings administrative experience, having served as Director of Cricket Operations for the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) and represented the state at BCCI AGMs.

The September 28 AGM, coinciding with the Asia Cup final in Dubai, will also see elections for the IPL and WPL governing councils. Current BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, who served as interim president after Roger Binny’s resignation due to age restrictions, is expected to continue in his role. Other office-bearers, including secretary Devajit Saikia and IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, are likely to retain their positions.

Manhas’s appointment aligns with BCCI’s tradition of appointing former cricketers to leadership roles, following icons like Ganguly and Binny. His nomination by JKCA and strong backing from key stakeholders signal a new era for Indian cricket administration.
