Premier League Sunday Wrap: Arsenal Go Six Points Clear as Eberechi Eze Hat-Trick Destroys Tottenham 4-1
Digital Desk
Arsenal delivered a devastating statement in the Premier League title race, thrashing bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium thanks to a sensational Eberechi Eze hat-trick – the first ever in a Premier League north London derby.
The result sends Mikel Arteta’s Gunners six points clear at the top of the Premier League table, seven ahead of champions Manchester City and with a game in hand still to come.
North London Derby: Eze Steals the Show as Arsenal Humiliate Spurs
From the first whistle, Arsenal were relentless. Leandro Trossard opened the scoring with a clinical finish from Mikel Merino’s defence-splitting pass, before summer signing Eberechi Eze took centre stage.
The England international danced past João Palhinha and Rodrigo Bentancur to make it 2-0, then needed just 35 seconds of the second half to curl home a stunning third Arsenal goal. Richarlison pulled one back with a spectacular 40-yard lob over David Raya, but Eze immediately restored the three-goal cushion, slamming home his historic hat-trick from Trossard’s cut-back.
Eze becomes the first player in Premier League history to score a treble in this fixture, capping a dream north London derby debut.
Mikel Arteta praised his side’s intensity: “That hunger, that cohesion – this is the Arsenal we want to see every week.”
In contrast, Spurs boss Thomas Frank labelled the performance “extremely bad”, with Tottenham now sitting ninth and a huge 11 points behind their local rivals.
Aston Villa 1-2 Leeds United: Morgan Rogers Brace Deepens Leeds Relegation Crisis
In Sunday’s other Premier League fixture, Aston Villa came from behind to beat struggling Leeds United 2-1 at Elland Road, piling more pressure on manager Daniel Farke.
Lukas Nmecha’s early deflected effort gave Leeds the lead, but Unai Emery’s half-time substitutions changed the game. Donyell Malen teed up Morgan Rogers for the equaliser before the former Manchester City youngster curled in a brilliant free-kick winner for his brace.
A late Dominic Calvert-Lewin “goal” was chalked off for handball after VAR review, leaving Leeds with five defeats in six matches and stuck in the relegation zone.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, have now won six of their last seven Premier League games and are firmly in the top-four conversation.
