Shubman said – I'm excited for the England series: Learned a lot from Virat bhai's captaincy, decision on Bumrah's participation will be based on fitness.

Team India’s Test captain Shubman Gill said he is very excited for the England series. In an interview with former cricketer Dinesh Karthik, Shubman mentioned that he learned a lot from Virat bhai's captaincy in Tests. He also said that decisions about Jasprit Bumrah’s participation will be taken keeping his fitness in mind.

Dinesh Karthik interviewed Shubman Gill for England's Sky Sports. Here's what Shubman said in response to Karthik's questions:

Karthik: What is your vision for the Indian Test team?
Shubman: Apart from winning trophies, I want to build a culture in Team India where every player feels happy and secure about their place. I know there are limited spots in the squad, but if I can make players feel confident about where they stand in the team, that would be a big achievement for me.

Karthik: What was the atmosphere like in your family when you were made Test captain?
Shubman: My family never imagined I would become the Test captain. Even as a child, I only dreamt of playing Test cricket for India — never of leading the side. I always focused on winning games for the team through my performance. After I was made captain, my father called me and we had a long conversation. He was very happy with the decision.

Karthik: What expectations do you have from yourself as a captain?
Shubman: Gautam bhai and Ajit sir simply told me to focus on expressing myself as a captain. The selection committee hasn’t put any pressure on me, but yes, after becoming captain, I do have certain expectations from myself, and I want to fulfill them with Team India.

Karthik: You played in the IPL under coach Nehra, and now you’ll be playing under coach Gambhir. What’s the difference between the two coaching styles?
Shubman: Playing under Ashu pa (Ashish Nehra) is always a fun experience. On the other hand, Gautam bhai is very clear about his decisions. He tells players in advance what is expected from them. He focuses more on the player’s mindset.
