Smriti Mandhana Sets Record for Most ODI Runs in a Year; Richa Ghosh Makes History with First World Cup Fifty

South Africa defeated India for the third consecutive time in the Women’s ODI World Cup, dealing a setback to the home side. In Visakhapatnam on Thursday, Richa Ghosh scored a remarkable 94 runs while batting at number 8, marking the highest score ever at this position in World Cup history.

Meanwhile, Smriti Mandhana became the first woman cricketer to score the most ODI runs in a single calendar year. Team India, however, struggled against left-arm spinners, losing 12 wickets to them in just the third match of the tournament.

4.    Highest Score by an Indian Wicketkeeper Batter in World Cup
Richa’s 94 is the highest by any Indian wicketkeeper in World Cup history, surpassing Fowzieh Khalili’s 88-run innings from 1982. Overall, she ranks third, behind Australia’s Alyssa Healy, who holds the record with 170 runs.

Richa shared an 88-run partnership with Sneh Rana for the 8th wicket, the highest for India in World Cup history at this position. The previous best was a 59-run stand by Jhulan Goswami and Mithali Raj against Sri Lanka in 2009.

This 149-run effort by the last five batters is the highest in Women’s ODI World Cup history after losing six wickets, surpassing Australia’s 146-run recovery against Pakistan in the same tournament.
