Who Is Akshara Gupta? Bihar Teen Sensation Being Called the ‘Female Vaibhav Suryavanshi’

Just months after teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi put Bihar on India’s cricket map, another young player from the state is drawing national attention. This time, it is 15-year-old Akshara Gupta, whose extraordinary performances in age-group cricket have earned her comparisons with one of Indian cricket’s fastest-rising stars.

Akshara recently made headlines in the Bihar Women’s Under-19 One-Day Trophy after smashing an unbeaten 306 runs off just 126 balls. Her innings included 55 fours and eight sixes and came at a remarkable strike rate of 242.86. The teenager reached her half-century in only 16 deliveries and completed her century in just 34 balls, producing one of the most explosive knocks seen in junior women’s cricket.

The innings has turned the spotlight on a cricketer whose journey began far away from elite training facilities and major cricketing centres.

Akshara hails from Raxaul, a town near the India-Nepal border in Bihar. Growing up in a region with limited cricket infrastructure, she relied heavily on family support to pursue her dream. Her father, Raj Kishore Shah, runs a chicken shop, while her mother, Reena Devi, played a crucial role in shaping her early cricketing journey.

Recognising her passion for the sport, the family built practice nets and a training pitch behind their home. Her mother reportedly ensured she maintained a disciplined routine, waking her up early for training sessions and fitness work.

Akshara first picked up a cricket bat at the age of eight and regularly played with her brothers and neighbourhood boys. Her talent was spotted by her uncle, Ramkripa, who began helping her develop her batting skills through daily practice sessions.

Since beginning structured training in 2020, Akshara has maintained an intensive practice schedule and continues to spend several hours each day working on her game.

Her rise through Bihar cricket has been rapid. In 2024, she earned selection to the Bihar Under-19 team and soon became one of the youngest captains in the setup. At just 14 years old, she was entrusted with leadership responsibilities and impressed against stronger teams such as Haryana and Punjab.

The following year brought another milestone. In February 2026, Akshara was selected for Bihar’s senior women’s team, becoming one of the youngest players to represent the state at the senior level.

Her performances continued to gather attention across domestic competitions. Akshara became the first female cricketer from Bihar to participate in all four BCCI age-group categories in a single season — Under-15, Under-19 T20, Under-19 One-Day and Under-23 tournaments.

The triple century was followed by another stunning display just four days later when she hammered 164 runs from only 68 deliveries, including 24 boundaries and six sixes.

The comparisons with Vaibhav Suryavanshi have emerged naturally. Both players come from Bihar, bat left-handed and are known for their fearless, attacking style. Their ability to dominate bowling attacks from the opening ball has led fans and observers to label Akshara as the “Female Vaibhav Suryavanshi.”

While the nickname has gained popularity, Akshara is already building an identity of her own through record-breaking performances and rapid progression in domestic cricket.

The teenager cites India opener Smriti Mandhana as her biggest inspiration, particularly admiring her elegant stroke play and cover drives. She is also a fan of Virat Kohli’s aggressive mindset and commitment to fitness.

A supporter of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in both the IPL and Women’s Premier League, Akshara’s long-term ambition remains clear — to wear the India jersey and represent the national women’s team on the international stage.

With performances already attracting attention beyond Bihar, she appears to be moving steadily toward that goal.
