Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy launched, medal now to be named after Pataudi: Sachin said – Tiger inspired many generations; there was controversy over Pataudi Trophy retirement.

After nearly three weeks of controversy, the ECB and BCCI officially launched the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy on Thursday. Along with this, the Pataudi Trophy was formally retired. To honor the Pataudi family, both cricket boards have decided to present the Pataudi Medal, which will be awarded to the winning captain of the series. The unveiling was earlier postponed due to the Ahmedabad plane crash on June 14.

On this occasion, legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar said, “I’m happy that a medal is being awarded in his (Tiger Pataudi’s) honor.” The retirement of the Pataudi Trophy had sparked controversy, and Tendulkar took the initiative to preserve Pataudi’s legacy.

This time, the winner of the India–England Test series will receive a new trophy named after Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson. This marks a new gesture of respect toward the two cricketing legends.

Why the Trophy Was Named After Tendulkar and Anderson
Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for playing the most Test matches (200) and scoring the most Test runs (15,921). On the other hand, James Anderson announced his retirement from Test cricket last year. He is the second most-capped Test player with 188 matches and the third-highest wicket-taker in Tests with 704 wickets.
