World Athletics Championships 2025 Tokyo: Neeraj Chopra leads Indian charge at the global showdown
Digital Desk
The 2025 World Athletics Championships will unfold over nine days from September 13 to 21 at the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan.
Fans can follow every moment of Tokyo25 as more than 2,000 athletes from around 200 countries vie for medals across 49 track, field, road, and combined events.
India’s 19-member contingent, comprising 14 men and 5 women, will be led by defending javelin world champion Neeraj Chopra, aiming to add to India’s historic three-medal tally at the World Championships. Chopra’s double Olympic medals and back-to-back world podium finishes (silver in 2022 and gold in 2023) make him India’s best hope in Tokyo. Other notable names include long jumper Murali Sreeshankar, Asian Games javelin champion Annu Rani, and rising sprinter Animesh Kujur, who becomes the first Indian male sprinter to compete at this level.

Past Indian Medalists
India’s World Championships medal journey began with Anju Bobby George’s historic long jump bronze in 2003. Nearly two decades later, Neeraj Chopra secured silver in the men’s javelin in 2022 and followed up with gold in 2023, lifting India’s total to three medals.
With multiple Indians already qualified in marquee events—including four entrants in the men’s javelin throw—India will look to not only stage a formidable presence but also build on its historic medal tally as Tokyo25 beckons.
