High Court Rejects Appeal of Mother Convicted of Killing Newborn
Bilaspur,C.G
The High Court has dismissed the appeal of a woman convicted of murdering her newborn baby, upholding the lower court’s sentence of life imprisonment.
The High Court has considered the conviction of the mother in the case of murder of a two-day-old newborn as the basis of punishment for saying in a social meeting without any temptation or pressure that the child was born out of our illicit relationship and that she had said that she had killed the child when the co-accused refused to keep the child. The appeal filed against the punishment of the woman who killed the newborn born out of illicit relationship and threw it in the salt marsh out of fear of public shame has been rejected on this basis. The woman has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Sessions Court. The case was heard in the DB of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice BD Guru.
A person living in Raipur district informed the police on 22 October 2018 that his widowed daughter-in-law and co-accused killed the two-day-old male infant by injuring his forehead and neck and threw the body away. On receiving the information, the police registered a case and got the post-mortem done. The post-mortem report confirmed the death and murder due to injury on the head and neck of the infant.
