A dispute over allegedly spoiled sweets at Manav Mandir Hotel in Khairagarh has sparked a local controversy, prompting intervention by the food safety department. The incident came to light after a resident accused the hotel of selling contaminated sweets that emitted a foul smell shortly after purchase.

According to the complainant, Prakriti Singh, a resident of Raj Family Ward, she had purchased sweets made of mango and milk for around ₹150 from the hotel. She stated that when she reached home and opened the box, a strong unpleasant odor began to emanate from the sweets, raising immediate concern about their quality and freshness.

Disturbed by the condition of the sweets, she reportedly stored them in a refrigerator and returned to the hotel the next day to file a complaint. However, she alleged that the hotel management did not take her complaint seriously and instead tried to blame her. The situation escalated into a heated argument, leading to commotion within the hotel premises.

Following the complaint and growing public attention, the Khairagarh Food Safety Unit reached the spot and initiated an inspection. Officials collected samples of the disputed sweets along with other food items stored at the hotel for detailed examination.

Food safety authorities confirmed that all collected samples will be sent to a laboratory for testing. The final report will determine whether the sweets met the required quality and hygiene standards or were unfit for consumption. Until then, no formal conclusion has been drawn regarding the allegations.

The complainant also expressed concern over potential health risks, stating that she is a breastfeeding mother and consuming spoiled food could have posed a serious risk to both her and her child. Her statement has added further sensitivity to the case.

Food safety experts note that sweets made from milk and fruit-based ingredients are highly perishable, especially in warm weather conditions. Improper storage or temperature fluctuations can quickly lead to bacterial growth, increasing the risk of food poisoning, stomach infections, and other health hazards.
