African Student Dies at University; Three Arrested in Raipur

Police have arrested three foreign students in connection with the death of an African student at a private university in Naya Raipur. The incident occurred on December 22 in the jurisdiction of the Mandir Hasaud police station.

The deceased has been identified as Sampur Jude (22), a Liberian national and an MBA second-year student. He died after falling from the fourth floor of the university’s EWS building. According to police investigations, Sampur was standing near the building with a female friend when three students from the same university arrived and confronted him, accusing him of misbehaving with the girlfriend of one of the accused.

The situation escalated into an argument, and the accused allegedly attempted to assault Sampur. Fearing for his safety, he ran up the stairs to the terrace. The three students reportedly followed him to the rooftop. In a state of panic, Sampur jumped from the roof in an attempt to escape, landing on a concrete road below and sustaining critical injuries.

He was immediately rushed to Sadhbhavna Hospital, then referred to Balco Hospital, and later shifted to Dr. BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital (Mekahara), where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The arrested accused have been identified as Nouei Kur Majak (23), Sabri Palino alias Tony (22), and Mohammed Khalfallah Omar Hassan (22)—all residents of South Sudan who were studying and residing in Naya Raipur.

Police officials said that after the incident, the girl and her boyfriend, fearing retaliation from Sampur’s friends, approached Bhilai police station before being brought to Mandir Hasaud police station for questioning. Following a detailed investigation and interrogation, police arrested the three students.

Based on the findings, a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against the accused. Police stated that during questioning, the accused admitted to the altercation that preceded the incident. Further investigation in the matter is ongoing.
