Air India has cancelled its morning flights on the Delhi–Raipur–Delhi sector until January 26 in view of heightened security arrangements in the national capital ahead of Republic Day celebrations. The temporary suspension is part of broader airspace restrictions imposed over Delhi, directly impacting passengers travelling between Chhattisgarh and the national capital.
According to an official communication issued by the airline, flight AI 1718, which operates on the Delhi–Raipur–Delhi route, will remain cancelled until January 26. The decision has been taken due to additional security protocols and restricted airspace operations over Delhi during the Republic Day period.
Airline officials said the move is precautionary and aligned with directives from aviation and security authorities. “Enhanced airspace restrictions are enforced every year around Republic Day. Certain flights are either rescheduled or cancelled to ensure safe and smooth conduct of national events,” an Air India official said.
The cancellation has affected passengers who had already booked tickets for travel during this period, particularly business travellers and those with pre-planned commitments. Raipur Airport authorities confirmed that several passengers have been approaching airline counters seeking clarification and alternative travel options.
Air India has advised passengers to verify their flight status before heading to the airport. Travellers have been urged to check updates through the airline’s official website, mobile app, or customer care helpline to avoid inconvenience. Airport officials echoed the advisory, stating that additional checks and longer security procedures are already in place at terminals.
To mitigate passenger inconvenience, Air India has offered affected travellers the option of rebooking on alternate flights or availing a full refund, as per airline policy. “Passengers whose flights have been cancelled are eligible for refunds or rescheduling without penalty,” the airline said in its advisory.
Security agencies have clarified that the restrictions are temporary and necessary to ensure safety during Republic Day rehearsals and the main parade on January 26. The impact is expected to ease once celebrations conclude, with normal flight operations likely to resume thereafter.
Raipur Airport officials noted that while flight cancellations add to passenger inconvenience, safety considerations remain paramount. “We request passengers to cooperate with security personnel and arrive well in advance for their flights,” an airport official said.
With air travel between Delhi and Raipur temporarily disrupted, passengers have been advised to plan their journeys carefully and stay updated on operational changes. Authorities reiterated that all measures are precautionary and aimed at ensuring a secure Republic Day celebration in the national capital.
