Baghel Targets Centre: ‘This Emergency Lasting 11 Years and Counting
Raipur, CG
On the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, Congress National General Secretary Bhupesh Baghel launched a sharp attack on the central government, saying, “That Emergency lasted 2.5 years, but this one has been going on for 11 years — and no one knows how long it will continue.” His remarks have stirred fresh political debate.
Today marks 50 years of the emergency imposed in the country. On this occasion, BJP is celebrating 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas' across the country. Regarding this, former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and Congress National General Secretary Bhupesh Baghel has launched a scathing attack on the central government. Baghel said that that emergency was for 2.5 years but this one has been in place for 11 years and don't know how long it will last.
In fact, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel held a press conference at his residence office in Raipur. During this, he said that Indira Gandhi had the courage to impose an emergency and impose it under the Constitution. Later our leaders admitted that injustice was done, some people misused it. But Indira Gandhi herself removed the emergency, conducted elections herself. Indira Gandhi had imposed a declared emergency in the country but in the last 11 years, an undeclared emergency has been imposed.
He said that action is being taken against politicians, media, industrialists. That emergency was for 2.5 years but this one has been in effect for 11 years and who knows how long it will continue. But for the last 11 years, we have been seeing that an undeclared emergency has been imposed. The ‘Abki Baar 400 Paar’ seen in the Lok Sabha was done to change the constitution.
Baghel said that no action is taken on the CAG report, it is a situation of pick and choose. The powers of the state and the centre are being curtailed. RSS people are being appointed in universities. Attempts are being made to suppress the judiciary. Earlier, industrialists used to put forth their views in industrial matters. There is complete control in the media. If any media house runs a program against the policies of the government, then CBI, IT, ED reach there. Raids were conducted on NDTV, Quint, Bharat Samachar, Newsclick, Dainik Bhaskar, BBC Hindi. Action was taken against The Wire, 4PM was suspended before Operation Sindoor. Gujarat Samachar was raided in a 15-20 year old case. Action is being taken without imposing emergency.
Bhupesh Baghel further said that continuous action is being taken against the opposition. Whoever joins BJP is washed in a washing machine. If a leader speaks in opposition, he is thrown in jail, agencies reach his place. Indira Gandhi had declared it but in the last 11 years, an undeclared emergency has been imposed, action is being taken against leaders, media, industrialists. That emergency was for 2.5 years but this has been in place for 11 years and no one knows how long it will continue.
Bhupesh Baghel countered Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw's press conference and said that the President had brought an ordinance for emergency. The ordinance was agreed upon in the Lok Sabha and passed. But at this time an undeclared emergency has been imposed in the country. Arun Saw should tell how many cases were registered by NIA in the last one and a half years, how many arrests were made. Helpless tribals are being put in jail. That is why 30-40 thousand people have fled the state from three districts out of fear of the police. The situation is more horrific than the Emergency.
