Chhattisgarh Gives 10% Job Reservation to Ex-Agniveers

Chhattisgarh has notified 10% reservation for former Agniveers in Class III direct recruitment, including jobs in police, forest and jail departments.
The Chhattisgarh government has introduced 10% reservation for former Agniveers in direct recruitment to Class III government posts, opening another employment avenue for young people who complete their four-year military service.
The state government has notified the ‘Agniveer Sainik Reservation Rules-2026’, under which eligible former Agniveers will receive reservation in direct recruitment to specified Class III posts. The provision will particularly benefit recruitment in the police, forest and jail departments. The move takes into account the training, discipline and experience gained by Agniveers during their military service.
Under the new rules, the reservation will be available only to candidates who have completed four years of service as an Agniveer. They will also have to meet the prescribed educational qualifications, age limit and other eligibility requirements for the post concerned.
10% Quota in Class III Recruitment
The government has kept 10% of the relevant direct recruitment vacancies reserved for former Agniveers. The provision will apply to recruitments conducted after the implementation of the Agniveer Sainik Reservation Rules-2026.
The decision is significant because the Agnipath recruitment system provides an initial four-year period of military service, after which only a portion of Agniveers are retained for further service. For those who leave the armed forces after completing the four-year tenure, finding suitable employment can become a challenge.
Police, Forest and Jail Jobs
The reservation is expected to be particularly relevant for former Agniveers preparing for government recruitment in the police, forest and jail departments. These departments regularly recruit for various Class III positions through direct recruitment.
Former Agniveers will, however, need to fulfil the recruitment criteria applicable to each post. The reservation does not remove the requirement to meet educational, age and other prescribed qualifications.
Employment Opportunity After Military Service
The state government's decision provides former Agniveers with an additional pathway into government employment after completing their military tenure. The government has cited the skills and experience acquired during military service as an important consideration behind the reservation provision.
The four-year service period exposes Agniveers to structured training, discipline and operational responsibilities. The new reservation policy seeks to provide these trained personnel with greater opportunities in state government recruitment.
Rules to Apply to Future Recruitments
The Agniveer Sainik Reservation Rules-2026 will govern the reservation in the relevant recruitments conducted after the notification. Candidates who have already completed four years of Agniveer service can avail themselves of the provision, subject to fulfilling the other eligibility conditions.
The notification is expected to be particularly important for former Agniveers in the state who are now preparing for upcoming government recruitment examinations and looking for opportunities in uniformed and other Class III services.
