Chhattisgarh is expected to witness another spell of heavy rainfall on September 1, with weather authorities issuing an orange alert for six districts and a yellow alert for 15 districts. The intensity of rainfall is likely to decline from September 2, according to the weather forecast cited in the source report.
Several parts of the Surguja and Raipur divisions received heavy to very heavy rainfall during the past 24 hours. From June 1 to August 31, the state received 917.1 mm of rainfall, compared with the normal rainfall of 933.2 mm for the period. This represents a deficit of 16.1 mm, or around 2 per cent.
The full monsoon season, from June to September, normally brings around 1,132.3 mm of rainfall to Chhattisgarh. With September beginning, the state would need another 215.3 mm to reach that seasonal average.
Rainfall intensity expected to decline
