Railway officials said the special trains will operate across key routes including Bilaspur–Raipur, Durg–Gondia, Itwari–Raigarh and Shahdol. These routes witness heavy passenger movement during summer, particularly among long-distance travellers.

Out of the 18 approved trains from the South East Central Railway (SECR), 13 have already commenced operations, while the remaining services will be rolled out in a phased manner.

Nationwide Deployment

At the national level, Indian Railways has sanctioned 908 summer special trains to tackle seasonal congestion. These trains are scheduled to operate a total of 18,262 trips between April 15 and July 15, significantly boosting available capacity.

Officials indicated that this large-scale deployment is part of a coordinated effort to handle the annual spike in travel demand during school holidays and festive movement.

Station Arrangements Enhanced

To address the impact of extreme heat and increased footfall, additional arrangements have been made at major stations such as Bilaspur, Raipur, Durg, Gondia, Itwari, Raigarh and Shahdol.

These include the installation of extra ticket counters, improved drinking water facilities, upgraded waiting areas, and strengthened cleanliness and security systems. According to officials, these steps are aimed at ensuring smoother passenger handling and better comfort during travel.
