Chhattisgarh Weather Update: Monsoon Expected in 3-4 Days

Severe humidity hits Chhattisgarh as the southwest monsoon advances through neighboring states. IMD issues high wind and rain alerts for Raipur and other districts.

Residents across Chhattisgarh are experiencing intense, sticky heat as a sharp rise in humidity signals the final phase of the pre-monsoon transition. While the state awaits the official arrival of the southwest monsoon, local meteorological experts indicate that the wait might soon be over, with conditions turning highly favorable for its entry over the next three to four days.

Sticky heat grips districts

The regional meteorological centre noted a distinct change in the state's atmospheric patterns over the last 24 hours. A steady influx of moisture has caused widespread discomfort, pushing the perceived temperatures much higher than the actual recorded readings.

Northern parts of the state registered a maximum temperature jump of up to 2°C during this period. Rajnandgaon clocked the highest temperature in the state at 43.5°C, compounding the discomfort for commuters. Meanwhile, Ambikapur offered a brief nocturnal respite, recording the state’s lowest minimum temperature at 23.4°C.

Monsoon advances across states

According to senior weather scientists tracking the system, the southwest monsoon is charting an aggressive path across the subcontinent. The system is currently advancing rapidly through Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and parts of Bihar.

"The atmospheric conditions over southern Chhattisgarh are aligning perfectly for the seasonal onset," an official statement from the weather bureau noted.

Current trajectories suggest that the seasonal rainfall system could cross into the state’s borders well within the next 72 to 96 hours, bringing an end to the prolonged spell of dry summer heat.

High wind warnings issued

The local administrative bodies have been advised to stay alert as the transition period brings volatile weather. The meteorological department has issued a warning for the next 24 hours, predicting thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h across isolated pockets.

The wind velocity is expected to escalate further over Thursday and Friday, potentially hitting 50 to 60 km/h. Localized light to moderate showers have already been recorded in parts of the state, acting as a precursor to the heavier systems. In the last 24 hours, areas like Shankargarh, Mandir Hasaud, and Kharora each registered 10 mm of rainfall, while several other blocks saw brief drizzles.

Raipur sees cloudy skies

In the state capital, the sky remained partially covered by low-hanging clouds on Wednesday morning. The local forecast for Raipur points toward a continuation of this partly cloudy sky pattern through the evening, though relief from the high moisture levels is unlikely before the weekend.

The maximum temperature in Raipur is projected to hover around 39°C, while the night temperature is expected to settle near 27°C. The combination of high day temperatures and surging humidity has kept city residents mostly indoors during the afternoon hours.

Agricultural setups on standby

The farming community across rural Chhattisgarh is closely monitoring these weather developments. With fields prepared for the Kharif sowing cycle, agriculturists are awaiting the first sustained spells of monsoon rain rather than the erratic pre-monsoon showers currently being observed.

District authorities have suggested that farmers finalize their seed procurement, as the sudden arrival of the monsoon could trigger a rapid start to sowing activities across the central plains.
