HM Vijay Sharma on Flag Controversy, Promises New Religious Conversion Act

Home Minister Vijay Sharma warned against interference in India’s religion-faith, vowed to raise his voice, and announced plans for a new state act on religious conversion, while targeting Congress over alleged vote theft.

The state's Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Vijay Sharma, while talking to the media in the capital today, reacted on many important issues simultaneously. He took a clear stand on the saffron flag controversy over the house of an army jawan in Machandur village of Durg district. He also talked about preparing a new strict law regarding religious conversion in the state. Apart from this, the Congress put forward its point regarding the vote theft public meeting to be held in Bilaspur.

Reaction to the flag controversy in Machandur of Durg

On the recent controversy over the saffron flag at the house of an army jawan in Machandur village of Durg district, Deputy Chief Minister Sharma said-

"A dispute was made with the person who had put up the flag. Today, we will put up the saffron flag at his house. Our Yuva Morcha President Rahul Tikaria is going there with the saffron flag. If there is any interference in the religion and faith of India, then a voice will be raised. Our point is clear that we will put up the flag there only."

Preparation of strict law on religious conversion

Home Minister Vijay Sharma said that cases of religious conversion are coming to light from different places in the state. He said-

"There is more hatred in the society regarding conversion. People are converted by luring them. Preparations for the new act have been done, it will be brought in the assembly. After this, it will be easy for the police to take action."

Targeting Congress' public meeting on vote theft

Vijay Sharma also took a dig at the big public meeting to be held by Congress in Bilaspur on the issue of vote theft. He said-

"The public knows very well that there is no issue of vote theft. Rahul Gandhi raised the issue and Congress followed. Rahul Gandhi has never been a polling agent or counting agent, so he does not know that there is a tick mark on the list against the name of every voter. If Congress is talking about irregularities in the voter list, then why is it protesting against the reform in Bihar?"
