Chhattisgarh is preparing to celebrate India’s 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026, with state-level ceremonies, parades, cultural programmes and public participation events across the state.

This year’s celebrations carry added significance for Chhattisgarh, with the state highlighting the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’ and marking the Independence Day after the government’s declaration of progress towards a Naxal-free Chhattisgarh.

The main state-level ceremony will be held at the Police Parade Ground in Raipur, where Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai will hoist the national flag and address the people of the state.

Main Ceremony in Raipur

The main Independence Day programme will begin at around 9 am at the Police Parade Ground, Raipur.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai will hoist the Tricolour before taking the salute of the parade contingents. The parade is expected to feature 17 contingents, including personnel from the BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP and Chhattisgarh Armed Force.

The ceremony will also include the presentation of state honours and medals to police personnel, security forces and citizens for outstanding service and acts of courage.

The Chief Minister is expected to outline the government's priorities and development initiatives in his Independence Day address.

Ministers to Lead District Events

Independence Day ceremonies will also be organised at district headquarters across Chhattisgarh, with senior leaders and ministers assigned to several major locations.

• Bilaspur: Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu will hoist the national flag.

• Durg: Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao will be the chief guest.

The government has announced plans to hoist the national flag in around 90 such villages and schools, including places where the Tricolour had reportedly not been hoisted since Independence.

The initiative is being presented as a symbol of the expansion of government presence and public institutions in areas that were previously affected by insurgency.

Bastar Tricolour Yatra

A special Bastar Tiranga Yatra is also being organised from August 12 to August 15.

The four-day campaign is being led by Home Minister Vijay Sharma and Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap. The yatra will conclude on Independence Day and focus on national unity, public participation and the Tricolour.

The campaign is expected to cover areas of Bastar that have witnessed significant changes in recent years.

‘Meri Beti-Mera Abhiman’ Campaign

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai is also scheduled to launch the ‘Meri Beti-Mera Abhiman’ campaign on August 15.
