A tragic accident occurred in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district on Tuesday afternoon. A mother and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter were crushed to death on the spot after being hit by a tractor-trolley loaded with soil while trying to avoid a collision with a scooter coming from behind. The incident took place near the Bharatiya Dayanand Arya Higher Secondary School under the Kotwali police station area.
According to reports, 30-year-old Vikas Sahu was out with his wife and daughter for some work. While riding his scooter, a tractor appeared suddenly from the front, and he applied the brakes. Due to the sudden jolt, his wife and daughter fell off the scooter and came under the rear wheels of the trolley. They were immediately taken to the hospital, but doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred because there was no speed breaker on the road. Dinesh Dewangan, a resident of Ward No. 5, Mararpara, said the road remains busy throughout the day, and as there are several schools nearby, vehicles often speed past even during school hours when children are around.
Police have detained the tractor driver and are questioning him. They are also gathering information about the tractor’s owner. The bodies of the mother and child have been sent for post-mortem after a panchanama (inquest) was conducted. Vikas Sahu is said to be in deep shock after witnessing the tragic incident.
