Vrishabha Pujan Day is on the new moon day of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapad month, which is called Pola-Pora Tihar in Chhattisgarh. According to the pandits, the Amavasya Tithi will start from 11.37 pm on August 22 and will last till 11.02 am the next day. Shradh Karma will be done on the previous day, while Vrishabha Pujan will be celebrated on August 23 as per Uday Tithi. This is also called Kushotpatini Amavasya.
In the scriptures, this Amavasya is also called Kushotpatini Amavasya. On this day, Brahmins engaged in priestly work uproot Kush, which is used in the rituals of God and ancestors.
Special importance due to falling on Saturday
This Amavasya falls on Saturday and hence Shani Dev is worshipped by the devotees. Also, Amavasya Tithi is considered to be the Tithi of ancestors. Those who have Shani Dosh should offer mustard oil, black sesame seeds etc. to Shani Dev. Those who have Pitru Dosh should mix black sesame seeds in milk and offer it to the Peepal tree for the ancestors.
