Proposal for Shimla-Manali Style Mall Road in Mainpat, Congress Protests

A proposal has been put forward to construct a Mall Road in Mainpat modeled after Shimla and Manali. The Congress party has protested against the plan, alleging that influential people are being granted land leases while the poor are being evicted.

Congress Protest:
Led by former minister Amarjeet Bhagat, Congress workers submitted a memorandum at the Tehsildar office on 10 October, warning that protests would intensify if the actions continued.

Mall Road Plan:
The state government announced the project during the Mainpat Festival in February 2024. According to Tourism Minister Brijmohan Agrawal, the plan includes the construction of a Mall Road and a Jhanda Park to promote tourism and create attractions for visitors, with a budget of ₹2 crore.

Eviction Notices:
A survey revealed that 54 people occupy land along the proposed Mall Road route. The Mainpat Tehsildar has issued eviction orders for all. Congress has called this unjust to the poor, with Amarjeet Bhagat stating, “Leases are being given to influential people, while the poor are being unfairly evicted. Congress will oppose this.”

Tehsildar’s Response:
Mainpat Tehsildar Mamta Ratre said that all orders were issued following legal procedures and that no discrimination was involved
