Raipur Steel Plant Fire Controlled After 5-Hour Operation

Raipur steel plant fire at Mivan Steel was brought under control after a five-hour operation. Authorities suspect a short circuit and have launched a probe.

A massive fire at the Mivan Steel plant in Raipur triggered panic as thick smoke was visible from nearly 10 km away. Authorities suspect a possible short circuit and have launched an investigation.

A major fire broke out at the Mivan Steel Limited plant in the Mandir Hasaud industrial area of Raipur on Tuesday morning, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky and triggering a large-scale firefighting operation that lasted nearly five hours.

The blaze, which was first noticed around 5:30 am, quickly spread through a significant section of the steel manufacturing facility. Residents and workers in nearby areas reported seeing towering flames and a dense plume of smoke from several kilometres away. According to initial estimates, the smoke could be seen from nearly 10 km from the site.

Fire Erupts At Dawn

Witnesses said smoke was first spotted emerging from the plant premises in the early hours of Tuesday. Within a short span, the situation escalated as flames engulfed a larger portion of the facility.

The incident caused concern across the industrial belt of Mandir Hasaud and adjoining localities, with many residents gathering at a distance to assess the situation. Videos of the fire and the massive smoke cloud circulated widely on social media through the morning.

Massive Rescue Effort

After receiving information about the fire, local authorities mobilised emergency response teams. Fire tenders from Raipur, Mandir Hasaud and nearby areas were rushed to the spot. Additional firefighting vehicles were also deployed after officials assessed the scale of the blaze.

Firefighters worked continuously for nearly five hours to contain the flames. Water tankers and foam-based firefighting equipment were used extensively to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining sections of the plant.

Officials said the operation remained challenging because of the intensity of the fire and the presence of industrial materials inside the premises.

Area Secured By Authorities

Police and district administration officials also reached the site shortly after the emergency was reported. As a precautionary measure, access around the affected section of the plant was restricted.

Barricades were placed near the facility and movement around the immediate area was regulated while firefighting operations were underway. Authorities monitored the situation throughout the morning to ensure public safety.

No Casualties Reported

One of the most significant reliefs from the incident was the absence of any reported loss of life. Officials confirmed that no casualties or serious injuries had been reported as of Tuesday afternoon.

However, the extent of damage to machinery, infrastructure and stored materials is expected to be substantial. A detailed assessment is likely to be carried out once the site is declared fully safe for inspection.

Short Circuit Suspected

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been established. Preliminary indications point towards a possible short circuit or technical malfunction, though officials cautioned that the findings remain tentative.

Sources familiar with the matter said a technical examination of the affected section will be conducted to determine how the fire originated and spread so rapidly.

Investigation Begins

Following the incident, authorities initiated a formal inquiry into the fire. Expert teams are expected to inspect electrical systems, safety infrastructure and operational records at the plant.

The findings will help determine whether the fire resulted from an equipment failure, electrical fault or any other industrial safety lapse. Meanwhile, the Raipur steel plant fire has once again highlighted the importance of stringent fire safety measures in large manufacturing facilities.

With operations at the affected section disrupted, officials are expected to submit a detailed report on the losses and cause of the incident in the coming days.
