A new and encouraging achievement has come to light regarding biodiversity in Khairagarh and Rajnandgaon districts. After four years, the rare Himalayan migratory bird Indian Blue Robin has been seen again. This bird was seen by nature lover Pratik Thakur in Dongargarh on 30 April. Earlier in April, SD Burman had recorded its presence in Bhilai.

Indian Blue Robin is an extremely rare Himalayan migratory bird, which migrates from the Himalayas to South India in October and returns to its breeding ground in the Himalayas by the end of April. It is very unusual to see it during this migration period in central India, due to which its presence is considered very important in terms of biodiversity. Earlier this bird has been seen in Raipur in 1991, 2020 and 2021 and in Narayanpur in 2015.

During this time, a large number of Malabar Pied Hornbill has also been recorded in the forests of Dongargarh, Khairagarh. This huge and rare bird is usually found in dense forests. It has been seen in a flock of 20 together in Khairagarh Dongargarh area, which is a proof of the rich biodiversity here. IUCN has included this species in the Red List in the Threatened category.

So far 295 bird species have been identified in Khairagarh and its surrounding forests. This figure shows that this area is becoming a precious area not only for birds but also from the point of view of nature and environmental conservation. Experts believe that if conservation work is accelerated, then this area can be included in the major bird watching destinations of India in the future.
