RTE Admission Delay: 4,000 Private School Seats Still Vacant

The admission process for children through RTE in private schools has faced significant delays, with 4,000 seats still unfilled. The second phase of applications, initially set to begin on June 2, has been stalled due to issues in the education department's rationalization process.

Under the Right to Education Act (RTE), out of the 40,000 seats allotted after the first phase lottery in the seats reserved for BPL category children in private schools, 36,000 seats have been filled. 4,000 seats are still vacant. The process of filling the application for the second phase admission in the first phase and on the already vacant seats has not started yet, whereas the application was to start from June 2.

It is being told that the education department is entangled in rationalization these days, due to which the admission process in RTE is getting delayed.

In RTE, 25 percent seats are reserved for poor children in private schools. Admission is given on these seats every year. This year, 52035 seats of RTE are reserved in 6628 private schools. One lakh 5 thousand 372 applications were received for these seats. In the first phase, lottery was drawn for 40 thousand seats in all 33 districts. On the basis of allocation, the selected children were to take admission in private schools.
