Six Naxalites Killed in Bijapur Encounter
Digital Desk
Security forces in Chhattisgarh have achieved a major success in their anti-Naxal operations. Six Naxalites were killed in a fierce encounter that took place on November 11 in the National Park area of Bijapur district, near the Chhattisgarh–Maharashtra border. Among the dead are Buchanna, in-charge of the Maddede Area Committee, and Urmila, wife of top Naxal leader Paparao. However, Paparao managed to escape once again.
The encounter occurred deep inside the forest along the inter-state border, following a three-day-long search operation by security forces. During the exchange of fire, three women Naxalites were also killed. Authorities confirmed that weapons, explosives, and other Maoist materials were recovered from the site. Identification of four of the bodies is still pending.
Video Shows DRG Jawans Retrieving Bodies from Forest
A video from the operation shows District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel carrying the bodies of slain Naxalites out of the dense forest, underscoring the challenging conditions under which the mission was conducted. Officials believe a few Naxal operatives remain active in the region, and a search is ongoing.
Major Success Under ‘Mission 2026’
This operation was part of the state’s ongoing anti-Naxal campaign, ‘Mission 2026’, and is being termed its biggest success yet. Acting on intelligence about the presence of around 20 Naxalites in the area, the forces launched a coordinated offensive, killing six while the others managed to flee.
Three Area Committees Now Vacant
The Naxal network in Bijapur has suffered a major blow. With the earlier surrender of Bhairamgarh commander Kamlulu and Gangloor commander Dinesh Modiyam, and now Buchanna’s death, all three key area committees have been wiped out.
Official Confirmation
Bastar Range IG Sundarraj P. confirmed the recovery of six bodies and said he will brief the media on Thursday. Police continue combing operations to eliminate the remaining Naxal presence and fully secure the district.
