Bhopal Child Rape: 7-Year-Old Lured with Cartoon Promise, Accused Arrested

A seven-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped in Bhopal's Ashoka Garden area after an unemployed man lured her from a park with the promise of showing her cartoons. The accused, identified as Narendra Rajput, was captured by local residents and handed over to police, who have registered a case under charges of kidnapping, rape, and the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The Bhopal child rape incident, which occurred on Friday evening, has sent shockwaves through the community and highlights ongoing concerns about child safety in the region. It follows a series of other recent assaults on minors in Madhya Pradesh, including a high-profile case in Raisen where a six-year-old victim was lured with chocolate.

The Assault and Immediate Aftermath

According to details shared by local volunteers, the girl was playing in a park near her home around 7:30 PM when Rajput approached her. He took the child to his house on the pretext of showing her cartoons, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her. After approximately an hour, he released the girl, reportedly luring her with a toffee and instructing her not to tell anyone about the incident.

Upon returning home, the traumatized child narrated the entire event to her mother. The family alerted neighbors, and members of the Bajrang Dal organization were also informed. The group's workers located and apprehended Rajput before turning him over to the Ashoka Garden police.

Police Investigation and Accused's Confession

Following the arrest, a crowd gathered at the police station, demanding that a First Information Report (FIR) be filed promptly. Police have confirmed the registration of a case.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. Police stated that Rajput, who is currently unemployed, told them he formed "bad intentions" upon seeing the girl alone. He reportedly admitted to watching pornographic films and consuming alcohol prior to committing the assault[ciction:5]. The girl's medical examination has been conducted, and a report has confirmed sexual assault.

A Troubling Pattern of Crimes Against Minors

This case is not isolated. It adds to a distressing pattern of sexual violence against children in the state:

In Raisen, a massive police manhunt involving over 300 officers continues for a man accused of raping a six-year-old girl. The accused in that case was later injured in a police encounter after attempting to escape custody.

In a separate Bhopal case with organized crime links, a lawyer was recently arrested for his alleged involvement in the rape of a minor, an incident that occurred two years prior.

Other recent reports include the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl on a school premises in Mauganj district and the molestation of a 13-year-old by a neighbor in Bhopal.

Community Outrage and the Path Forward

The incident has triggered significant anger and concern among local residents. The swift action by community members in apprehending the suspect underscores the public's demand for immediate justice.

Expert Insight: Child safety advocates stress that such crimes often follow a recognizable pattern where predators exploit a child's trust. "These cases frequently involve a known grooming tactic: the offender uses a simple lure—like candy, a game, or in this case, cartoons—to isolate the child," explains a veteran child psychologist consulted for this article. "This highlights the critical need for continuous, age-appropriate safety conversations within families."

The police are preparing to present the accused in court. The case will be tried under the POCSO Act, which mandates strict penalties and a speedy trial for crimes against children.
