A tragic incident unfolded in Shahdol district when 14-year-old Ansh went missing in the Narmada river near Sohagpur while attempting to create a social media reel. The teenager has been missing for over 36 hours despite continuous search operations by rescue teams.
The Dangerous Stunt
Ansh, a resident of the Budhar police station area, had ventured to the Navalpur Son River bridge with his friends on Sunday. The group devised a risky plan to create content for social media by tying a makeshift rope made from cloth to a stone on the bridge. They intended to descend into the river's turbulent waters to film an exciting reel.
The adventure turned catastrophic when Ansh's grip on the improvised rope failed. The strong current of the Narmada river immediately swept him away as his helpless friends watched from above. Unable to rescue their companion, the group immediately contacted Sohagpur police to report the incident.
Ongoing Rescue Efforts
Sohagpur police station in-charge Bhupendra Mani Pandey confirmed that authorities and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) responded promptly upon receiving the distress call. A crucial 4-second video of the accident, captured on the friends' mobile phones, is being analyzed by investigators to understand the sequence of events.
SDRF in-charge Sub-Inspector Komal Singh highlighted the significant challenges facing the rescue operation. The river's powerful current has complicated search efforts, forcing teams to cover approximately 30 kilometers of waterway. Despite the extensive area covered and continuous operations through Monday, Ansh remains missing.
Social Media Risks
This incident underscores the growing dangers associated with creating social media content, particularly among teenagers seeking viral fame. The pursuit of dramatic footage for reels has led to numerous accidents across the country, often involving risky stunts near water bodies or dangerous locations.
Rescue operations continue as authorities maintain hope of finding the missing teenager while his family anxiously awaits news.
