19 Years of Captivity Ends: 16 Labourers Rescued from Hellish Conditions

In a shocking revelation, 16 labourers, including a retired teacher, were freed after enduring 19 years of captivity and inhumane conditions. The victims have been sent to a rehabilitation ashram to begin their journey toward recovery and dignity.

Guna. In a shocking incident, the administration has freed 16 bonded labourers from Binaganj area of ​​Guna district, including a former teacher who was doing bonded labour for the last 19 years. Rama, who taught English and Mathematics at Manav Chetna High School in Ahmedabad, was considered mentally weak and was forcibly put to work in the fields and with the animals, that too without salary.

As soon as the administration received complaints of bonded labour, a secret operation was launched under the leadership of SDM Ravi Malviya on the instructions of Guna Collector Kishore Kumar Kanyal. On Friday, joint teams of revenue, police and municipality raided about a dozen villages and freed 16 people. These include people from UP, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Orissa.

The victims were kept in inhuman conditions. On protesting, they were beaten up, given electric shocks and were not allowed to go out. Many victims were so scared that they were trembling even in front of the police. Former teacher Rama told that he was on a journey from Shirdi to Mathura, when on the way some people caught him in Binaganj and forced him to work as a labourer. He was not released even after repeated requests. At the same time, the stories of other labourers like Virendra Yadav, resident of Rae Bareli in UP, Vimal Kumar of Fatehpur have also been very painful.

Sent for rehabilitation in “Apna Ghar” Ashram in Shivpuri

They were forcibly made to work in fields, buffalo sheds and brick kilns. After providing first aid and food to all the rescued labourers, they have been sent for rehabilitation in “Apna Ghar” Ashram in Shivpuri. The administration is now engaged in their identification and rehabilitation process. In the evening, Collector Kishore Kumar Kanyal reached the district hospital and met the victims and enquired about their health. He assured that proper medical, care and rehabilitation facilities will be provided to all the victims.
