23-Year-Old Girl Commit Suicide Over Exam Stress, Marriage Pressure in Jhabua

Jhabua student suicide case: 23-year-old woman ends life after exam stress and marriage pressure in Madhya Pradesh. Police begin investigation.

In a disturbing incident reported as the Jhabua student suicide case, a 23-year-old woman allegedly ended her life by jumping in front of a moving goods train near Thandla Road railway station in Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua district on Monday evening. The incident occurred around 4:45 pm when the Up line freight train was passing through the section.

According to officials, the impact of the collision was severe, and the woman died on the spot. Railway and Government Railway Police (GRP) teams reached the location shortly after receiving information from locals.

Incident Near Railway Track

The incident took place close to Thandla Road station, approximately a few kilometres from the district headquarters. As per preliminary information, the woman was seen near the railway track moments before the train arrived.

Locals alerted authorities after witnessing the aftermath. Police immediately secured the area and diverted movement around the track for investigation and recovery procedures.

Victim Identified By Police

Officials identified the deceased as Vimla (23), daughter of Kalu Helot, a resident of Sajeli Naniya village under Meghnagar tehsil. The identification was confirmed after documents were recovered from the scene.

The Jhabua student suicide case has since drawn attention in the region, with authorities confirming that the deceased was a student and was preparing for examinations.

Suicide Note Recovered

During the search operation, police recovered a handwritten note from the victim’s belongings. In the note, she reportedly apologised to her father and mentioned that her exam results had not gone well.

She also wrote about family pressure related to marriage, stating that she was not willing to get married at this stage of life. Officials said the note suggested emotional distress linked to academic performance and personal circumstances. However, police have not released the full contents publicly, citing procedural reasons.

Police Initiate Probe

Following the incident, GRP Meghnagar registered a case under relevant sections of the law and initiated a detailed investigation. The body was shifted to the district hospital for post-mortem examination.

Officials stated that statements from family members and witnesses will be recorded as part of the inquiry. Authorities are also examining the circumstances leading up to the incident to establish a clear sequence of events.
