High Court’s Big Decision: SC-ST Reservation Permanent in 85 Indore Wards, OBC Quota to Rotate; Electoral Equations to Shift

In a significant ruling, the High Court has ordered that SC-ST reservation will remain permanent in 85 wards of Indore, while the OBC reservation will be subject to rotation. The decision is expected to have a major impact on upcoming local body elections and political strategies.

The division bench of the High Court has given a big decision regarding the Indore Municipal Corporation elections. The court has decided that SC-ST reservation will be permanent in 85 wards of the Municipal Corporation, while the reservation of OBC category will be done through rotation system. This decision has come by overturning the old order of the single bench of the High Court, in which three years ago, instructions were given to implement ST-SC reservation in rotation like OBC.

Actually, the petitioner had demanded that SC-ST reservation should also be implemented in rotation like OBC, so that other classes can also get a chance to contest elections. His argument was that due to continuous SC or ST reservation in a ward, people of non-reserved classes there are out of the electoral process. But now the division bench of the High Court has given the verdict in favor of the state government. The government had made it clear in the court that keeping SC-ST reservation permanent is the policy and constitutional right of the state government.
