A major infrastructure development initiative worth ₹247.8 million (₹24.78 crore) was launched on Sunday in Bhopal's Narela Assembly constituency, marking the beginning of ten public development projects aimed at improving civic infrastructure and essential services. The projects, spread across Wards 37 and 38, were inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh's Minister for Cooperation, Sports and Youth Welfare, Vishvas Kailash Sarang, who also inaugurated a newly developed open gym at Kailash Sarang Park.

The projects are intended to strengthen urban infrastructure by expanding sewerage systems, improving drinking water supply, constructing roads and drains, developing public parks, and creating additional civic facilities. The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of residents living in rapidly growing neighborhoods of the Narela Assembly constituency.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Minister Sarang said the development works are being implemented with the objective of ensuring that the benefits of infrastructure reach every section of society. He stated that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, the state government is focusing on balanced urban development and the expansion of basic public services across all wards without discrimination.

A significant portion of the investment has been allocated to strengthening the city's sewerage infrastructure under the AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) programme. According to officials, the expansion of the sewerage network will improve sanitation standards, reduce waterlogging, and provide a long-term solution to wastewater management in several residential colonies.

Of the total investment, projects worth ₹8.04 crore have been approved for Ward 37, while ₹16.74 crore has been allocated for development works in Ward 38. Together, these initiatives represent one of the largest recent civic infrastructure packages for the area.

In Ward 37, the sewerage expansion project will cover localities including Purushottam Nagar, Durga Nagar, Bapu Colony, Vijay Nagar, Rajveer Colony, and adjoining residential areas. The installation of new sewer pipelines is expected to improve drainage efficiency and reduce problems associated with overflowing wastewater during the monsoon season.

Alongside sewerage development, authorities have also initiated the expansion of drinking water pipelines in Purushottam Nagar and Vijay Nagar. The upgraded water supply infrastructure aims to improve access to clean drinking water while supporting the area's increasing population and future urban growth.

Minister Sarang emphasized that a modern sewerage network is an essential component of planned urban development. He noted that efficient underground drainage systems contribute not only to sanitation but also to public health, environmental protection, and improved living conditions for residents.

Ward 38 has received the larger share of the development package, with multiple infrastructure projects planned across Sairam Colony, Semra, Shankar Nagar, Swadesh Nagar, Ektapuri, Pant Nagar, and nearby areas. The projects include the installation of new sewerage pipelines, extension of drinking water distribution systems, construction of drains, and several public utility improvements.

One of the most significant works in Ward 38 is the construction of a cement concrete (CC) road connecting Ashoka Garden Police Station to the Ektapuri–Semra Vegetable Market. The road project, valued at approximately ₹6 crore, is expected to improve traffic movement, enhance road safety, and provide better connectivity for residents, commuters, and commercial vehicles using the route.

Additional civic works include the construction of drainage systems, development of park boundary walls, creation of cultural platforms within parks, installation of paving blocks, and the construction of a public toilet facility near the Semra Vegetable Market Square. The public toilet project, estimated to cost ₹20 lakh, is intended to improve sanitation facilities in one of the area's busiest commercial locations.

The minister also inaugurated an open gym at Kailash Sarang Park as part of the city's efforts to promote public health and fitness. Equipped with outdoor exercise equipment, the facility is expected to serve residents of all age groups, including youth, women, and senior citizens.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Sarang said public parks are increasingly being developed as community wellness spaces where residents can engage in physical activity without requiring access to private fitness centres. He added that similar open gyms are being planned for other parks across the city to encourage healthier lifestyles.

Local residents welcomed the announcement of the development projects, expressing hope that improved roads, drainage, water supply, and sanitation facilities would significantly enhance the quality of life in the area. Many of the neighborhoods included in the project have witnessed rapid residential expansion in recent years, increasing the demand for upgraded civic infrastructure.

With work now officially underway, municipal agencies are expected to begin implementation of the projects in phases. Once completed, the initiatives are expected to strengthen urban infrastructure, improve public services, and support sustainable development across the Narela Assembly constituency, reinforcing the city's ongoing efforts to modernize essential civic amenities.
