Bhind Police Custodial Torture Allegations: Court Orders Fresh Medical Panel After Victims Unable to Stand
Digital Desk
In a significant development highlighting alleged police brutality, five men were granted immediate bail after a Bhind court rejected a police-submitted medical report, citing their severe physical condition. The judge ordered a fresh examination by a medical panel upon seeing the accused, who were reportedly unable to stand due to injuries sustained in alleged custodial assault.
The case, stemming from the Phoop Police Station area, has brought the Bhind police under scrutiny for claims of custodial torture and biased investigation.
Incident Timeline: From Road Accident to Police Lockup
The sequence of events began on Friday evening. According to reports, Vivek Sharma was standing near a vegetable cart when a minor traffic accident occurred with Chhotu Jatav. The situation escalated into an argument and a physical altercation, leading to a traffic jam.
Police officer Rahul Rajawat arrived at the scene in plain clothes to mediate. The situation allegedly intensified when Vivek's family argued with the officer. A witness, Deepak Parmar, attempted to record the incident, but his phone was reportedly snatched. Following this, cross-FIRs were registered by both parties.
Allegations of Nocturnal Raid and Custodial Violence
The situation took a drastic turn later that night. The family of the accused alleges that police personnel arrived at their home and took several members to the Phoop police station. While women and children were released, five men—Vivek Sharma, Pramod Sharma, Abhishek Sharma, Deepak Sharma, and Suresh Sharma—were held in the lockup.
It is here that the severe custodial assault is alleged to have occurred. The victims claim they were brutally beaten throughout the night. The gravity of the allegations was underscored when the accused were presented in court on Saturday.
Courtroom Revelation and Judicial Intervention
The condition of the accused, particularly Pramod and Deepak, was so critical that they could not walk. Pramod Sharma reportedly told the judge that he was beaten with sticks and batons while in police custody.
A medical report confirmed 11 serious injury marks on Pramod's body. Shocked by their visible state, the judge took the following key actions:
Rejected the initial medical report conducted under police supervision.
Ordered a fresh medical examination by a panel of doctors for an impartial assessment.
Granted immediate bail to all five accused.
In a dramatic moment after the hearing, Pramod Sharma collapsed on the road outside the court, stating, "I can’t walk now, my ribs are broken."
Reactions and Official Statements
Himanshu Sharma, the lawyer for the victims, strongly condemned the police action. "The police have acted brutally. The 11 injuries on Pramod’s body are clear evidence of assault. The police acted with clear bias, making the case appear one-sided," he said.
However, Satyendra Rajput, the in-charge of Phoop Police Station, denied all allegations. He maintained, "This was a simple accident escalated by Vivek and his family. They assaulted Chhotu and snatched the mobile phone. The accused are acting; no one was beaten by the police."
Providing assurance of a fair process, SDOP Ravindra Vaskale stated, "The court has ordered a medical examination by a panel board, and the report will be submitted. If anyone files a formal complaint of misconduct or assault, an impartial investigation will be conducted."
The case continues to develop, with the findings of the court-ordered medical panel being highly anticipated for the future course of this custodial violence case.
