Bhopal District Bans Conventional Firecrackers This Diwali, Permits Only Green Crackers
Digital Desk
The Bhopal district administration has announced a complete ban on conventional firecrackers for this Diwali. Only environment-friendly green crackers will be allowed for sale and use, with strict legal action for violations, officials said.
Decision and Enforcement
The directive was issued during a review meeting at the Collectorate, attended by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Prakash Nayak, Pollution Control Board officials, Fire Department representatives, and fireworks trade members. Nayak warned that selling banned crackers could lead to FIRs and shop closures. Traders must also ensure adequate fire safety measures at their outlets.
Sales Arrangements
Around 1,000 temporary shops will operate across seven designated locations in Bhopal, monitored jointly by SDMs, police, fire officials, and the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC). Inspections will be conducted in the coming days, and licences will be suspended if outlets fail to meet safety standards.
Special inspection teams led by Sub-Divisional Magistrates will oversee all permanent and temporary outlets, including areas like Halalpur, Karond, Jamunia Chhir, Suncity Garden, Madhav Ashram, Gandhi Nagar, Shahjahan Park, Govindpura, TT Nagar, and MP Nagar.
Pending Allocations and Safety Guidelines
About 180 retailers in Sant Hirdaram Nagar and Bitton Market are still awaiting space allocation, raising concerns about crowding.
All traders are required to follow strict safety norms, such as selling under tin sheds, maintaining fire extinguishers and sand buckets, using new electrical wiring, and keeping a minimum three-metre gap between shops. Bhopal Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh reiterated that licences would be suspended for any violations.
The Wholesale Firecracker Association President, Asandas Chandnani, urged authorities to issue licences promptly to ease congestion in wholesale markets.
