The Jabalpur High Court is set to hold the next hearing on October 13 regarding the contentious "Machhli family" case, which involves serious allegations including sexual abuse and drug trafficking. Ahead of the hearing, the Bhopal district administration is preparing to present documents to the court to justify its administrative actions in the case .
The court has directed the State Government, the Bhopal Collector, the DCP Crime, and officials from three banks to appear with all relevant records to clarify the legality of the actions taken, which included the demolition of properties and the freezing of bank accounts .
The petition was filed by Sajida B and nine other members of the Machhli family, who argued that government actions had damaged their property. They contend that their names do not appear in any First Information Report (FIR) and that no criminal investigation is ongoing against them. Despite this, they claim their properties were demolished, bank accounts frozen, and email access blocked without due process or prior notice following an FIR against another member, Yaseen .
In a significant development that could impact the case, the district administration is also considering regularizing certain government land encroachments under the 'Dharanadhikar' scheme. Recent reports indicate the government has extended the scheme's cut-off date from December 31, 2014, to December 31, 2020, potentially offering a path to ownership for occupants who can provide valid documents and pay a set premium .
If implemented, this regularization could extend relief to the Machhli family and around 40 other encroachers, including properties in Diamond City Colony and Courtyard Prime, turning a high-profile crackdown into a complex legal battle over land rights and due process .
