After nearly three years of waiting, Nishatpura Railway Station in Bhopal is finally set to become operational for passenger services. The station is scheduled to be inaugurated on July 26, marking the beginning of regular train operations from a facility that has remained ready since June 2023 but unused for passenger traffic.

The opening is expected to bring significant relief to residents of Nishatpura, Karond, Bhanpur, and several surrounding localities, offering a convenient alternative to the city's busy Bhopal Junction and Rani Kamalapati Railway Station.

Station Ready Since 2023

Although construction of the station was completed nearly three years ago, passenger services never commenced, leaving the modern facility largely deserted.

The station already features essential passenger amenities, including ticket counters, waiting areas, lifts, CCTV surveillance, modern lighting, and well-developed platforms. However, despite being fully equipped, it remained inactive due to the absence of scheduled train stoppages.

The long delay had become a major concern for local residents, who repeatedly demanded that the station be made operational.

Inauguration Scheduled for July 26

According to the latest information, the inauguration ceremony is scheduled for July 26. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is expected to join the event virtually, while local public representatives will attend the programme in Bhopal.

Bhopal MP Alok Sharma had earlier raised the issue with the Railway Minister, urging the government to operationalize the station at the earliest.

With the inauguration date now finalized, railway authorities have accelerated preparations for commencing passenger services.

Limited Train Stoppages Initially

Passenger operations will begin with a limited number of train stoppages during the initial phase.

Reports have varied regarding the exact number of trains that will halt at Nishatpura. Earlier discussions suggested stoppages for three trains, while more recent updates indicate that Malwa Express and Somnath Express are likely to be among the first services scheduled to stop at the station.

The final list of trains and their timings will be confirmed through the Railway Ministry's official operational schedule.

Major Relief for Northern Bhopal

The station is expected to benefit nearly 300,000 residents living in Nishatpura, Karond, Bhanpur, parts of Raisen Road, and several northern areas of Bhopal.

Currently, most passengers from these localities travel to either Bhopal Junction or Rani Kamalapati Railway Station, often navigating heavy city traffic to catch long-distance trains.

Once more trains begin stopping at Nishatpura, commuters will have access to a railway station much closer to their homes, reducing travel time and easing road congestion.

Reducing Pressure on Existing Stations

Railway officials believe Nishatpura Station will serve as an important addition to Bhopal's expanding railway network.

Bhopal Junction remains one of the city's busiest stations, serving the old city and surrounding areas, while Rani Kamalapati Station has emerged as the primary hub for New Bhopal.

The activation of Nishatpura Station is expected to distribute passenger traffic more evenly across the city's railway network, particularly for trains already passing through the route.

Although operations will initially remain limited, authorities expect the station's role to expand gradually based on passenger demand and operational feasibility.

Modern Passenger Facilities Already in Place

Since the infrastructure has been completed, passengers will immediately have access to several modern facilities, including:
